![]() He collects local iron sand using big magnets from Kikuchi river to melt in the furnace in his studio. This area produces fine iron sand since medieval times. Skilled artist Otsuka Koretada 大塚惟忠 (smith name KORETADA 惟忠) established his studio in Kikuchi, Higo (today Kumamoto pref.) where is the birth place of Enju school from Kamakura 13th century. The inscription on Shinogi-suji starts from the place of work Kikuchi-ju 菊池住 and smith name KORETADA 惟忠. The other side of Hakiura shows the date of year In the 8th month Heisei 6 (1994) Shallow kurijiri heel and horizontal kiri filemarks, the back ridge of Nakago is slight-rounded contour with O-sujikai filemarks. Tang(Nakago): The heel of Nakago is UBU original with one retaining peg hole. Temper of tip(Boshi): Temper of boshi forms irregular midarekomi of gunome outline abundant hakikake sweeping indication then medium circle turns back deeply. The entire temper gives off vividly bright impression. ![]() The interior of temper is filled with mist-like crystallize area deeply. Entire temper line varies in height and some of quenching lines breaks splashing into Hiraji that generate " Tobiyaki". Temper(Hamon): Hamon is on rather stronger side Nie hard metal granules base, Choji of clove berry outline in which interior of temper is active of frequent long foot of ashi emitting into the cutting edge. Steel gives off the impression of Nie sparkling hard metal granules " Ji-nie" and darkish thick lines of Nie so called " CHIKEI" activity wells out from steel. The shape reminds of Nanbokucho-revival blade but in it's shortened condition of Ō-suriage. The blade does not taper that much leading to the elongated chu-kissaki. It holds well balanced moderate sori, wide mihaba with wide proportion of Hira-ji to Shinogi-ji. Blade construction: Ubu original Shinogi-zukuri, Iori-mune katana.
